Eating Disorder Recovery Support Group
POV: You’ve been working on getting help for your eating disorder by working with a dietitian and therapist. Part of you really wants to recover and take your life back. But other Parts really want to hold on to the comfort and control your eating disorder provides. Trying to recover while living in diet culture, explaining your meal plan requirements to family and friends, and reminding said family and friends that it’s not helpful to talk about food, bodies, exercise, or their diets constantly is exhausting. Not to mention, all the intense feelings that come up when you try to push back against what your eating disorder is saying.
Navigating recovery on your own can feel really scary, hard, and, at times, maybe not even worth it.
The truth is: eating disorders thrive in isolation, but healing happens in community.
So, we are starting an eating disorder recovery community support group! Grab all the details below!
ED Recovery Support Group
This group is a space for women moving through eating disorder recovery who crave support and a community that understands their experience.
WHERE: Meeting weekly at the Collaborative Counseling and Nutrition Carmel office starting in June through September.
WHEN: Mondays @ 4:00 pm
WHO IS THIS FOR: While we want to offer support to everyone struggling with an eating disorder, given the resources available, this group is most suited for adult women who are appropriate for outpatient care, OR are working with a treatment team (therapist and dietitian) who agree it’s a good fit.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Participants can expect a 60-75 minute group session that includes a brief welcome, a grounding activity, a group check-in, a mini talk on a specific topic related to recovery, journaling and reflecting time, and a closing grounding activity. The first group session will be dedicated to expectations and group rules.
WHAT IT’S NOT: This is NOT a therapy processing group. It’s a community support group that offers resources and a space to share experiences with recovery.
TOPICS: This group will cover a range of topics related to eating disorder recovery, including navigating relationships in recovery (family, friend, and romantic), how to live in and push back against diet culture, emotional and nervous system regulation, reclaiming your relationship with your body, and more.
COMMITMENT: We encourage all participants to join the group for weekly meetings, but know that schedules and life can make that difficult. We have 12 slots available for this group.
COST: We want to make this group as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. We will be utilizing a 3-tiered equity pricing structure, with the opportunity for those with financial means to ‘sponsor’ or ‘contribute’ funds for those with financial challenges. Please see pricing below.
